BAKLAVA strikes again
Action Bronson is back with another BAKLAVA collection and, to be quite frank, I’ll happily break the bank for this one.
At this point I don’t really know what category BAKLAVA fits into, and I think that’s exactly the point. Bronson has built this world around himself where a pair of New Balance sneakers, a fishing shirt, a diver watch, fragrance or ridiculous outdoor accessory can all somehow sit next to each other and make complete sense.
It’s unequivocally BAKLAVA.
This latest collection through Specializing in Life takes that idea even further, bringing together clothing, accessories, the new High Tide Diver watch and SPLASH, a BAKLAVA fragrance. Bronson described the release as taking the BAKLAVA family “into the 22nd century.”
And somehow, looking at everything together, I understand exactly what he means.
The High Tide Diver
Probably the standout for me is the BAKLAVA High Tide Diver.
The watch is a 40mm stainless-steel automatic diver built around a Miyota 8205 movement, with 100 metres of water resistance, sapphire crystal, an exhibition caseback, screw-down crown and engraved aluminium rotating bezel.
On paper, it sounds like a fairly traditional dive watch.
Then BAKLAVA gets involved.
The red dial and bezel are paired with a bright blue strap, with the colours immediately pulling it away from the endless black, silver and navy dive watches we’re used to seeing. Even the presentation feels like it belongs inside Bronson’s world rather than something trying too hard to be a traditional luxury watch.
That’s probably what I like most about it.
He hasn’t tried to reinvent the watch. He’s taken something familiar and made it unmistakably his. 
Specializing in Life
The clothing follows the same idea.
Take the pink outdoor/fishing shirt Bronson wore for the collection. There are thousands of shirts built around essentially the same formula, but this one just works.
The cool pink, oversized chest pockets, wider fit and small BAKLAVA detail on the chest make it feel relaxed without looking lazy. Pair it with green shorts, matching socks, trail shoes and a watch that probably shouldn’t work with any of it and somehow the whole thing comes together.
That has become one of my favourite things about Bronson’s approach to style.
Nothing feels overly calculated.
There’s outdoor gear, workwear, sportswear, technical footwear, watches, jewellery and colours that probably shouldn’t be sitting next to one another. But once he wears it, you understand it.
BAKLAVA has basically taken that philosophy and turned it into a brand.
SPLASH
Then there’s the fragrance.
SPLASH actually has deeper roots in Bronson’s music than this release might initially suggest. Fragrance has appeared as an idea in his work before, and his 2024 album JOHANN SEBASTIAN BACHLAVA THE DOCTOR opened with “SPLASH (PROVOCATIV),” which itself presented SPLASH as a BAKLAVA fragrance.
So seeing SPLASH exist as an actual product now feels very Bronson.
An idea can begin as a lyric, become part of an album, turn into a visual language and eventually become something you can physically own.
That crossover between music and product is something he has played with for years. Even around Only for Dolphins, Bronson spoke about wanting the project to extend beyond sound into scent, food, art and physical objects.
It makes BAKLAVA feel less like artist merchandise and more like an extension of everything he’s interested in.
The BAKLAVA universe
I think that’s ultimately why I keep coming back to Action Bronson.
This is probably the fourth or fifth time I’ve featured Bronson or BAKLAVA on Basecamp Archive, whether it’s the New Balance collaborations, clothing, objects or whatever else he decides to make next.
There’s a consistency to his taste without everything needing to look the same.
You can usually look at something and know immediately that Bronson had something to do with it. The colours are slightly louder. The proportions are a little different. There’s usually some reference to food, fishing, travel, sport or an incredibly specific thing he happens to love.
But it never feels like he’s chasing whatever everyone else is doing.
The product almost feels secondary to the world surrounding it.
BAKLAVA is Bronson’s taste translated into physical objects.
And that’s what makes this latest collection interesting to me. None of these things are necessarily new ideas. Fishing shirts already exist. Dive watches already exist. Outdoor hats already exist. Fragrances obviously already exist. But Action Bronson takes these existing products and fuses his DNA with them, making them that much more appealing.
